His research work includes 1.075  published research articles in international peer review medical journals with a total impact factor over 4.600. His papers have more than 15.000 references (citations) in the literature.

Almost all of the above published research work has been produced in Greece and refers to original (core) research.

According to the most accredited online scientific database for Biomedical research BiomedExperts, he is ranked in the top 10 of the most prominent researchers worldwide regarding 8 out of 19 scientific fields. For example, in the broad and competitive research field of Coronary Heart Disease, his rank is in the 4^th place.

The above objective data (number, quality and recognition of his research work), place him among the top Cardiovascular Research leaders worldwide.

He has presented more than 3,100 abstracts and has given over 260 lectures as invited speaker in international scientific conferences.

• He is editor in 6 books of international publications and has written chapters in 13 international books.
• In Greece he has edited or written chapters in over 50 Cardiology books, he has published a great number of scientific articles or abstracts and he has given numerous lectures in congresses.
• He has invented and developed at least 10 novel diagnostic and therapeutic techniques (stent, catheters etc.), which have been published and received credits internationally.
• He organizes International and National conferences and workshops on Cardiovascular Medicine on annual basis.

Editorial Work

• He is Chief Editor of the Hellenic Journal of Cardiology (indexed in Medline)
• He is member of the editorial board and reviewer in Greek and International Scientific Journals.

Clinical work

He has worked in all areas of cardiovascular medicine. He has organized the Hemodynamic Laboratory of the 1^st Cardiology Department, which is now considered one of the most prominent Hemodynamic Labs in Europe. He has performed tens of thousands diagnostic and therapeutic percutaneous interventional procedures.

Social Contribution

He has been publishing articles in the press, informing the public about cardiovascular health, for several years. He maintains a weekly column in “Eleftherotypia” newspaper entitled “Cardian Kathara” (Clean Heart), and a weekly column in newspaper " To Proto Thema".  He has participated in numerous television reports and newscasts keeping the public informed about critical health issues.

Honors and Awards

In Greece

He has received awards for his research in Cardiology by the Hellenic Society of Cardiology, the University of Crete and the Hellenic Heart Foundation. He has also received an Award for his Social Medical work by the National Association of Football Coaches as part of the event "Apollonia 2011". He has also been declared as an honorary citizen of Papagos Municipality.

Internationally

He has won 2 awards for his research on Interventional Cardiology from the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

In 2007, the prestigious international journal "Clinical Cardiology" devoted a special honorary two-page article entitled "Profiles in Cardiology" analyzing his hitherto work.

In 2008 he was awarded the title of "Archon" from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

In 2005 he was awarded the title of "Elite Reviewer" by the scientific journal “Journal of the American College of Cardiology” (JACC) in recognition of his whole contribution to the Journal’s publication.

In 2011, the American College of Cardiology awarded him the Simon Dack’s Award, which is given to the scientist with the most important contribution to the scientific journals of the American College of Cardiology (Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JACC-Cardiovascular Interventions and JACC-Cardiovascular Imaging).
